I don't think it matters. Anyone who wants to hijack a plane will figure out a way to do it.
If a man can make a bomb in his shoe, who knows what else you can do.

If you are boarding in the UK the rules are much stricter than if you are Boarding in the USA. If you are boarding in the USA - you can carry your Handbag on board but no liquids or ointments, or lip gloss, or toothpaste etc.
