i have been visiting my real father's family this summer for two weeks. i havent seen my father for almost seven years. i havent had any contact with him whatsoever. my grandma on my father's side told me i should write him a letter about how i feel and to see if he will write me back. i am afraid that this will hurt my stepdad's feelings. ya know make him think that i dont love him and that i9 think he doesnt do a good job as a father. i want to talk to him about it but i am worried. should i talk to him about it or keep it a secret?

let your stepfather know that you want to contact your biological father. Tell him you have questions about why he left and never wanted to contact you after he left. You know he may not answer your letter but you want to write him just the same. Reassure your stepfather by letting him know that he is your real father and nothing can change that and that you love him.

honesty is always the best policy. The great thing about love is that you want what is best for the other person. And I bet that is exactly how your step dad feels. He wants you to be happy. Just be very open and honest with him, tell him that you are curious about your biological father. Reassure him how much he means to you. If it helps right your step father a letter also telling him how much he means to you. Of course you are going to be curious about your biological father, it's natural. And I bet you more than anything your step father knows that. He will understand, just be honest with him, tell him what you told us that you don't want him to think that he means any less to you. Good luck!

If your stepfather is a good man, he will understand why you want to do this. You have a right to know where you came from. You should know your real father. There is a big difference between a father and a dad.

I think you should talk to your step dad about how you are feeling. I think he will understand that you just want to see your dad and that it will have not take away your feelings for him.
