There are bombings all over the world we have been largely immune until 9/11 then we joined the group the hard way. There have been suicide bombings for years it is an all too common guerilla tactic. It is hard to defend against and is chillingly effective. For the price of one person you kill dozens or more of those you think as enemies. Imagine what you would do if there was an occupying force of Alien invaders. Would you risk your life to take out one of thier ships? Even sacrifice it? Watch Red Dawn if you want to see what americans would do, They can not play fair because if they did the US and British forces will win. We have more standard military might. Therefore they use what power forces and methods of attack they have. They think that is thier only choice. What are they going to do, organize a army and fight us? I think you can ask Iraq how well that idea works. Not a great tactical move

Bin Laden was a US ally at one point against Russia.
Apparently the US let him down in Afghanistan.
Suddenly he realised the US was the real enemy.
He is really upset by the troops in Saudi Arabia.
The Crusades are a good excuse though a bit cliche'd already.
The creation of Israel is a really good excuse too. Americans.....imagine if Russia and Europe had decided Israel should be in Virgina including Washinton DC and had armed it to the teeth and created it right there. Or Brit's imagine if the US and Russia had picked South East England including London to be the promised land. Wouldn't we be a bit upset ?
All religions falter when it comes to adjusting to the real world but Judaism, Christianity and Islam all have this historic Achilles heel of non-tolerance to to anyone that isn't of their religion. As a result whenever some religious extremist sect from one of those three feels like it they can easily justify trying to kill the other religion. Right now it is just the Muslims turn.
But when it comes down to it....in high school non-popular kids resent the popular ones. No need to name examples of what happens there. Terrorism is just the real world version of that.

No one hates Canada. I don't really know all the details but I think it is important to know their reasoning (not agree with. KNOW).
A lot of it has to do with the way the US and west treat Muslims and how they treat their governments. The people there feel pushed around by the west and are wondering why they can't run their countries the same way western countries get to - without constant interference.
Also, I found it funny that Palestine is one of the few democratic (states ?) in the Muslim world, yet when they elected Arafat, Bush told them to pick someone else because America didn't agree with the choice of the Palestinian people.
Imagine Canada telling you to vote again because it didn't like Bush? Would you think much of Canada?

I believe that it is a combination of things. Our government, Christian-based society, & training from an early age to dislike our society. Much in same way that many Americans have been taught to mistrust the Russians & Communist Cultures. Don't forget that America has it's own terrorists that are home-grown. We "Westerners" are difficult to understand & we definately won't take orders from someone based on their religious beliefs. It is laughable to many of us & we have a hard time sorting out the good guys from the bad guys. This reminds me of the Vietnam War because it was so difficult to tell who the real enemy was, so a lot of innocent "asians" ended up getting killed because there isn't time to ask questions when a war breaks out in full force!

I'm allowed to ruin my life by sleeping with strange women. That's there number one peeve that they actually say.
I think they want to rule their countries themselve, with sharia law, because they think people are oppressed by God or something because they aren't literally killing all the Christians and Jews.
They also would like a more chaotic place, where their guns make them right.
Choose a reason and you have a terrorist organization.

There are alot of factors involved in this answer as there isn't just one answer. The terrorists themselves although originally come from different backgrounds usually third world countries are usually westerners themselves, but they consider thenselves very separate. I do not think that all terrorists hate westerners, i think they are taking revenge on UK, USA in response to these countries interfering in Afganistan's and Iraq's government via using weaponary forces. The other reason is that USA sends weapons to Israel whereby Israel are using these weapons for demolishing other countries. In any case i believe war and violence is wrong, nothing good comes out of it! It's usually the fanatics and fundamentalists who carry out these acts of terrorism, which is condemned in Islam. I've mentioned Islam because alot of these terrorists come from this religion as portrayed in the media and this religion actually does not support this kind of act. Like the law of a country, Islam teaches that you must not cause harm to yourself or to others and must only use reasonable force only to defend yourself and not to cause harm or death to others as only God and take or give a life! That's if someone believes in God that is. Hope this helps.
P.s. i've just graduated as a psychologist this summer in UK and one of my colleagues did a study on terrorism and what are the reasons for it, very interesting.
Also I tried to contact you, but the message wouldn't go through as it says your e-mail add is not there or something, here's my e-mail: coolchic172001@yahoo.co.uk I would like to contact you about something in relation to Canadians and I would like some info. Hope to hear from you soon.

Unlike the majority of posters already. I believe it has been amplified in recent times because the western powers have forced their way into the middle east as a means to control it. It was the west that forced it's way in and gave Israel the land of Israel and expelling Palestine.
They hate us for going into Iraq, Afghanistan. They hate us for profitting from their natural resources. They hate us for the control we used to exert on their governments (see: Britain in India and the Mid-East).

Because that's the way they bring up there children and it gets perpetuated through the generations. Hate is actaullty fear I think. They are afraid of our freedom of choice, religion, and lifestyle. It is a threat to their very existence as a people. They have to tightly control their people and don't allow them to think for themselves or have choices. That way the leaders will always thrive and be in power and have great wealth. Glad I don't live in a society like that even with all our own flaws.

The terrorists are few. The West, especially the U.S., because we are bullies, braggarts, and blow-hards who don't respect their countries, lands, religions, don't understand them, don't want to get to know them, forget how brilliant and important to world culture they once were and might be again, is disliked, not trusted. Many of these "terrorists" have lived here. Been educated here. They see us as instigators and as an occupying force through our confederates such as Turkey, Saudi Arabia, at one time, Iraq, and mostly Israel. Our tactics of dropping MOABs and deploying troops instead of giving aid and building roads and planting crops and supplying food, re enforces this view. Whether they are prickly, or wrong, it is obvious, that the U.S. has blown it as far as world opinion goes.

Because we have freedom. They are jealous. They are pious. They want us to submit to Islam. Also, they are mad because we support & encourage Israel. They are jealous of Israel. They are pious. And they want Israel totally destroyed.
If they would have the victory, they would still be terrorists until the whole world submitted to Islam. Like what was prophecied about the fallen Hallal (Lucifer) who tried to usurp God's identity. The fallen star would now be a terror. I think Lucifer is the Father of terrorism.
