Okay, I need your help in settling a disagreement that I'm having with another member. He's telling me that the Cardinals came straight from St. Louis to Arizona. I'm saying that they either used a different name or just flat out were not a team during the late 80's.
I used to obsessively collect football cards, and I don't remember there being a team called the Cardinals. Were they the Oilers in the Late 80's?

The Oilers were in Houston then moved to Tennesse and became the Titans. The Arizona Cardinals came from St. Louis. They were the Cardinals there as well. The St Louis Rams were the LA Rams. Hope that makes sense.

They were the Chicago Cardinals from 1920 to 1959, the St. Louis Cardinals from 1960 to 1987, the Phoenix Cardinals from 1988 to 1993, and have been the Arizona Cardinals from 1994 to today.

The Arizona Cardinals are, in fact, one of the oldest professional American football clubs. This historic team started in Chicago in 1898. Since then, the team has played in St. Louis, from 1960 to 1988, and present day Arizona since '88. There's no relation between the Oilers and the Cardinals.

No NFL team has folded since 1952.

As others mentioned, the Cardinals (originally the Chicago Cardinals until 1960, when they moved to St. Louis) arrived in Phoenix in 1988, and became the Arizona Cardinals in 1994.

The Oilers were one of the original eight AFL teams in 1960 (along with the New York Titans [Jets], Boston [New England] Patriots, Buffalo Bills, Los Angeles [San Diego] Chargers, Oakland Raiders, Denver Broncos, and Dallas Texans [Kansas City Chiefs]) who moved out of Houston in 1996.

They were the St. Louis Cardinals prior to moving to Arizona. They were the Chicago Cardinals until 1960. Then they moved to Phoenix in 1988. The Oilers moved to Tenessee in 1996 & are the Titans now.

Yes, the Cardinals came straight from St. Louis. Mr. Bidwell, the owner moved the team to Arizona in the spring of 1988 and made Sun Devil Stadium on the campus of Arizona State University their new home. They had been in St. Louis for 28 years.

Moved from St. Louis to Phoenix in 1988. Used the name Phoenix Cardinals for awhile and then switched to the Arizona Cardinals in 1994.
