I was reading an article today about an incident at the Lincoln Park zoo in Chicago. Apparantly the president of the zoo offered his resignation because of the incident, but the zoo had refused to accept it. I don't get why, if the person wants to resign, a company wouldn't allow them to.

Since the Lincoln Park Zoo is a governmental or non-profit agency, the action by the zoo board of directors is a "Vote of confidence" for the president and bascially tells him. "You screwed up, but we still trust you and believe in your leadership abilities."

The President was "resigning" as a good faith gesture to keep the board from having to "fire" him if they didn't like his screw up.

It was all political posturing which you will find in many governmental type jobs/appointments.

the zoo probably has a board who feel that even though the incident is the presidents fault it is not enough to lose him. He doesn't really want to quit but feels he must due to public pressure. When the board supports his continuation at the zoo, he can go against public opinion and stay. All about being PC.

It sounds to me like your present day company values your understanding and understanding to the volume they are prepared to double your income. i imagine i ought to confer with the listing of the corporate and tell him/her precisely what you stated the following, and then ask if there is yet another position or branch they could or will positioned you in. If after that you nevertheless favor out then the corporate particularly does no longer have a lot selection. in case you decide on to renounce, do it in a specialist, dignified way that does no longer mirror badly on the corporate. In different words, do not burn bridges unnecessarily.

If a person really wants to leave, they can.

It's just an employers way of saying "we don't want you to leave".
