Men go shirtless to stay cool in hot weather. Boy's do it to try to show off their so called muscles.

Because they can and it's not a big deal if they do. I would too if I could. It's more comfortable and for those with a good body, it's a chance to show it off. Plus they can get some air to cool down (in the shade) or some sun for color or to warm up. Also, it's one less thing to get soiled if they are doing something that will cause them to get dirty. Additionally, it's one less thing to get in the way / obscure their view if they are working on something where they have to bend over a lot. Finally, for hairy men it's bothersome to have your shirt "tickle" the hairs on your back. My husband says it's like bugs are crawling on him.
