I think the key will be for Heath to try his best not to be anything like Jack Nicholson's Joker. If he plays it more manic and homicidal (Nicholson played Joker very intellectual), then he has a chance. He will need to contort his face more like Joker is in the comics but I suspect CGI will help with that.

Personally, I prefer the Bale Batman to even Keaton as he played it much darker than ever before. Christian Bale isn't Batman; he is the Dark Knight.....and that makes him hundreds of times better. If they can keep Heath's Joker in the same black hole of despair, I think it'll work.

I hope Heath Ledger will give a credible performance as the Joker. They are re inventing the Batman franchise so maybe they will reinvent the Joker as well.

Nicholson was the definitive Joker of his time but you must admit the Batman films after Tim Burton stopped making them all tanked. I think Batman returns was much better than Batman was but a sequel usually outshines the first because we already know the characters from the first film.

Hopefully they do not kill off any of the villians in this series of movies because it is not true of the comic book otherwise "Arkham Asylum" would never exsist. I can not wait until Penguin, Catwoman, Riddler, Two-Face, and Robin are introduced. If they do introduce Robin then they must keep Joker alive because as we all know it was the Joker who killed Robin.

Batman Begins completely "reboots" the continuity, as far as Batman movies go - it's as if the earlier films never existed, so really Heath Ledger's Joker is NOT the same character as Jack Nicholson's version. However, Nicholson's portrayal is so iconic, it'll be very difficult for Ledger to play the character without comparison; he will have to put his own stamp on it somehow. I think he'll be a good Joker.

No stinkin way. He HAS to go a different way with the character. Darker, less humorous. He can't try to play the same game Jack did. He's a fine actor, but Jack Nicholson is Jack Nicholson.

IMHO, the original 1989 Batman is still the best of the series, largely because JACK NICHOLSON WAS PLAYING THE JOKER!!! How cool was that?

Good luck though, Heath.

Jack Nicholson has eccentricity and charm. These are gifts that made his joker worthy emulation.

I would hope that Heath Ledger has the sense to approach the character from a fresh stand point and made it his own.

Only then will he achieve a performance worthy praise, however not comparison. So me Jack is the Joker.

Well I think the way in which he is portrayed will be totally different. I don't think it will be better than Jack's though but I still have faith it will be an entertaining movie becasue I thought that Batman Begins was amazing (probably the second best Batman movie after the one with Jack). I believe that The Joker will probably be a little bit darker of a character in this film.

I like Heath Ledger, but I don't think his performance will even come close to Jack Nicholson's as the Joker. He is definitely hotter than Jack, though.

Nobody can ever fill Jack Nicholson's shoes- he is definetly one of the best. Heath Ledger doesn't even compare.

No : he is too young and too much of a pretty boy to pull off such a dark role, also he is missing the legendary Jack Nicholson iconic 'joker smile'

I don't think he should try to fill Jacks shoes, he can do a great job as Heath. He is a great actor and I think he will do fine.
