I am almost 38 weeks pregnant and I am 2 cm dilated and 50%effaced. I went to the dr yesterday and he stripped my membranes. Since then I have had mucasy stuff coming out little by little. Not sure if this is my mucas plug or not. Anyone know the percent of likeliness that my labor will start since the procedure the dr did yesterday?

Stripping the membranes does not always work and quite frankly I don't know why your doc did this since there's no reason to jump start your labor at 38 weeks, dilating or not.

Generally it is estimated that labor will start within 24 hours to several days of having the membranes stripped, but it's no guarantee and my humble opinion is that it should not be done needlessly before 40 weeks.

Best of luck with your labor and delivery!

Percent of likeliness? Probably exactly the same as if he hadn't stripped your membranes. It didn't work for me. Nor did eating spicy food or going on long walks or sex or anything else. I delivered both of my children after being induced with Pitocin in the 41st week because I was getting way too anxious about still being pregnant. My advice? Just wait for it to happen. All the fretting is such a waste of time.

I had that done with my second child at 39 weeks. It didn't work. My daughter was a week late. I also lost my mucus plug shortly after having it done. I've heard quite a few women say that it did nothing for them either. I think that the only way it would work is if your body is ready to go into labour. It's possible to be 2cm and 50% effaced for a while, so I wouldn't hold your breath. Babies come when they want to. Good luck.

I did with my last child and I wished I hadn't. I had a lot of pain, had difficulty walking and she still came 3 days after her due date. I don't even know why the doc did it, I had had 2 children before that fine. I still think that it was the reason I had a uterine infection after I gave birth and I ended up back in the hospital the same day they released me. I was there for 3 days with them trying to bring my 105 temperature down with drugs that were safe for me breastfeeding...it was hell. I don't reccommend it for anyone. I hope you don't have any of these issues. Good luck.

dont know about percentage but i had it done and was still the same after about a week ..the mucus plug would be quiet big and pinkish in colour ..you are not long away from having your baby and i think they could break your waters on your next visit ..good luck
