I am amazed at how many people ask complete strangers for medical advice, particularly the medical emergency ones such as the child with 104 degree temp.! or the man who hit his head and is not numb on one side......Dont people KNOW when to seek medical attention?!?!?!

WOW, I had no idea how this simple question could turn ugly. I did not mean to demean those who do not have insurance or the money for Doctors, BUT they should have the common sense to seek medical attention when faced with an emergency!

It amazes me as well that people with apparent serious issues, would come here and ask strangers what to do...perhaps it's that fear of getting bad news from the doc, when they hope everyone here will say "Oh, it's going to be fine".

*shakes head* I value my own and my loved ones' health WAY too much to come here BEFORE seeking professional help or advice.

People ask questions on here first because most likely they can not afford a doctor. Why go in if it is something trivial just to be told that there is nothing that can be done or given a placebo.

I think many of the questions like.... what to do with a child with a 104 degree fever could be just stupid people trying to get a rise out of you. I mean I have seen people that asked assinine questions like has anyone ever seen a donkey show... and please describe it. They dont really want to get answers just to see what people will admit to.

ONes that are health releated... but obvious... just return with the obvious advice.... go to the emergency room. Most sane people would know if one is bleeding profusely from the head that you must go to an emergency room. Any caring parent would just bring a child to the ER if it has a temp of 104 or higher.

Just use common sense with your answers. Dont be degrading.

First of all, I completely agree with you. But, I have to tell you why I agree with you before you see my point.
1. I have full coverage medical insurance, and can get an appointment at anytime, with meds for free (military benefit)
2. I am an RN student in my 3rd semester of school, so, I KNOW what is bad and what is stupid.
3. I'm not afraid of being called stupid by a doctor for going in for something that ends up being really stupid.

So, someone who does not have any of those things, might be more inclined to make sure they aren't going in for something that could end up costing them alot of money for no reason. And plus, alot of people like the attention. It's kind of cool getting 30 emails in 5 minutes.

You're right, it's absolutely necessary to get oneself to a hospital or get medical care in cases of emergencies.
There are however people out there with no medical insurance and not much money to cover doctor fees and so they turn to other sources they have available to them. I'm certainly not advocating such behaviour but sometimes when you have no other choice and you're in need of advice, be it medical or something else the internet is a good place for information, but always bear in mind, it's good and bad!

Im amazed you are using this as your own "forum" for telling people what to do. Why dont you seek counseling? Sounds like Anger Management is needed. Okay, seriously now, because we're dealing with people from all walks of life, all over the place with different skill-sets. Some of these "Hot topic" questions are just that. There are alot of people making up situations just to get a rise and attention from other people. Let's face it, they are just not as level headed as you and me.

People ask medical questions on Answers because they want to hear what regular people think before deciding that they need proffessional medical attention. Some people hate hospitals and doctors, so they want an excuse not to go.

It pretty much is like a doctor but with no fees and no waiting lines. I would rather learn here how to stitch my self before I go to the hospital and bleed to death for having to fill out a million forms and wait till my number #2097 is called. There is very good stuff here to learn from and prevent.

probable cuz they're scared and/or do no longer prefer to look like a hypochondriac, and perchance it extremely is a stepping stone to them to get some evaluations from friends first formerly they visit the healthcare expert. if the question comprises something extremely severe however, Answerers in lots of cases tell the guy to "go SEE a doctor" (in lots of cases in Caps speech, sure), so as that could desire to be the encouragement the guy desires.

well since so much money goes to bush's war, not everyone has the means to get to a hospital or to pay the bills after going to one.
