Last night I went to start my car, wouldn't turn over and the theft system light is flashing. i have no alarm on my car, but I do have a remote keyless entry. I tried pumping the gas & everything, nothing. I waited about 10-15 minutes stuck the key in, the luight went off, and it started right up. I hope this isn't going to become a regular thing...anyone familiar with this?

Here's the correct answer. What's causing the trouble is a part of the anti-theft system. There is a module that disables the starter...normally it does this if someone tries to use the wrong key or uses something other than the proper ignition key to start the car. Something tripped it in this case; it could have been moisture or dirt on the key, or in the ignition switch perhaps. Always make sure the key is clean and dry before inserting it.

I have an older Corvette that does this occasionally. On my car you have to wait at least 7-10 minutes before trying to start the car again, otherwise it resets its little internal timer and you get to wait another 10 minutes.

If it repeats this behavior then you might want to take it to a dealer or good auto electrical shop to have the anti-theft system inspected.

Hope this helped.

Well my first question to you is, Do you still have the key-fob for your keyless entry? Some how you deactivated the alarm for it to start. I would say if it is important to you, then you should go to the dealer and ask if they can get you a new one. I'm not real familar with the remote keyless entry systems and can only guess that waiting 15 minutes is the way to go, but it may not work the next time when you really need it to.

The most common problem is the hall-effect switch in the ignition tumbler. the local gm dealer will be more than happy to sell you one and set up the lock to fit your existing key. Just remember when you are finished the replacement the pats2 security system has to relearn your key. turn the key to the start position and release the key. Leave the key in the on position for 10 minutes until the security light stops flashing then the car is ready
