Because he saw a DeadHead sticker on a cadillac and it reminded him of the old days when he was carefree and living the hippie lifestyle, but now he's in another place so the voice inside his head said "Don't look back, you can never look back."

Because it's true. So true. You can only live in the present. Looking back at all the things you've screwed up on just makes miserable, so why bother looking back at all?
