It is very unlikely that a coyote would attack an adult human. They have been known to attack babies and toddlers however, mistaking them for a small animal. I work as a wildlife biologist and see coyotes on a weekly basis and most of them run from me. When I work in a more urban area where they are used to people...they show no fear of me and sometimes even follow me around and bark at me, but always keeping their distance. Once I unknowingly sneaked up on one and gave him quite a scare. I don't really carry any protection against them when I am out working. I am actually a lot more vary of stray dogs I run into while working as they are a lot more unpredictable and more likely to attack.

Wild coyotes will only attack a human if they are cornered and have no place to run. No doubt that a mother will protect her pups. One thing you have to realize is that even capture young and raised by humans, a coyote is a wild animal and can never be quote "tame". A rabid coyote may attack a human, but remember that is an abnormal behavior. Coyote close to human settlement might attack an unprotected toddler, but never an adult. And yes coyotes will eat cats and smaller dogs. They will not attack large dogs, since some of them are about the same size as a coyote or even bigger. Now places like Los Angeles, I be more worried about being attacked by a mountain lion than a coyote since they are alot stronger and are perfectly capable of killing a human and they have been know to include the coyote in their diets.

Coyotes in so CA have attacked a number of infants-toddlers, although they are usually after cats and dogs and will shread them to bits at night. Cat was coyote's favorite meal where we lived. Pieces all over the streets in the morning and you could hear them doing their attacks in the middle of the night. The city limits are encrouching on coyote turf so much in so CA that the coyotes are not as skiddish as they have been in prior decades and will not run away even if you are 10 feet away! I was so shocked at that last summer! They can get downright nervey and eat cat-dog food left out in your back yard. Best to be very cautious. When animals are hungry and in an urgent survival mode anything can happen. I know a few coyotes that were quasi tamed, but it was more abuse by someone who had the coyote leashed and penned in than a real "domestication." In fact it would be against the law in some areas to keep a coyote. The coyote was taken back by Fish and Game and was unable to be rehabilitated and returned to the wild due to its contact with humans from a young age. So it is living at a wild animal rehab-hospital center now and can be seen by visitors in zoo like setting of many injured-disabled animals, inc eagles, owls, etc. Best leave them to their nat'l way! It's not nice to mess with Mother Nature!

No coyotes tend to me shy and skittish.
They generally eat small rodents and will at times eat chicken or ducks. You normally wouldn't see them during the day. They usually go out between evening and early morning. From afar they look like sickly dogs so you may have even seen one but thought it was a dog. I haven't heard of a coyote attacking humans but I guess anything is possible, especially if they are sick or contracted rabies. A coyote is a wild animal and are not domesticated so although you can get a coyote pup used to humans, they can never truly be "tamed" as a dog.

Ive always been told that coyotes are more afraid of us then we are of them. As for taming a coyote, I have no idea but I still don't like to leave my small dog out at night because we have coyotes in the area and they will snatch up small animals
