It depends on the rock. Talcum powder comes from a rock so soft you can scratch it with your finger. Diamonds are so hard that nothing else will scratch them. Everything else falls on a scale between those limits. Knife blades are usually in the middle somewhere depending on how good their steel is. When Lorena Bobbitt's husband thought he was "hard as a rock" she tried a major scratch test with her knife and found that he wasn't as tough as he imagined he was.
