The reason I'm asking this question, is because I'm thinking about moving to Canada where I'll have more freedom and there won't be as many laws that don't make any sense.

Pretty easy. They don't exactly have a huge influx of immigrants, because although everyone says they want to move to Canada, most people would never do it because it's so cold. If you can deal with the weather, it really is a nice country full of friendly, laid-back people. The economy may not be great, but you can always get by, with government help if you need it.

8 months to become a permanent resident, plus 3 years for full citizenship.
