An acoustic guitar and an electric guitar are strung and tuned in exactly the same manner, so if you learn a song on one you can play it on the other in exactly the same way. The difference is when you start adding distortion and other effects to an electric guitar. Makes for two very different playing styles...

If you mean an acoustic guitar, yes and no. Looking at the answers that came up while I was answering, I'm going to have to agree with sarge927.

The mechanics are the same, but there's an added element of finesse involved. A 1/4 bend is going to sound like a full octave bend... pick placement is key... yadda yadda yadda. At first it may seem as though you don't know what you're doing, but practice with it for a while and you'll be a rock star in no time.

Do you mean an acoustic guitar? Tenes the same and chords the same as an electric guitar, but there subtle differences in picking and strumming.

Yes, you can play them the same. I feel an electric is, in general, easier to play, though there is obviously more overhead and cost involved (heavier, the amp, cords, etc...) But it depends on what style you want to play, some are easier and sound better on one or the other.
