My 12 week old has had tremors in his arms and legs since his birth. Has anyone had this and figured out what caused it? we are currently waiting to see the Pediatric Neurologist. They occur many times a day and always happen when he is waking up.. (they occur other times, but guarenteed to happen when he wakes up) We've had a clear CT scan and an EEG that only showed 1 sharp wave during his sleep.

He is one of a set of twins and they were born at 36 weeks, measuring like 35, so yes he is a preemie.

There may have been some oxygen deprivation at birth... glad you are seeking the professional's help. Being a preemie does predispose him to some conditions (as well as being a twin). Has he been tested for a seizure condition? At any rate, your best answer lies with the results from the neurologist. Good luck with your little guy!

As a preemie it's important to remember that he isn't at the developmental level of a 3 month old yet but rather that of a 7-8 week old infant. Tremors can be an innocent sign of the normal underdeveloped neurosystem that infants have. My youngest daughter, also a 36 weeker had tremors and twitches for the first several weeks. I know that there are neurological conditions to be concerned about, but I think that it's best to just think simple and don't be too concerned unless a Neurologist says otherwise.

Babies do jump and quiver because their nerves are still growing. My little guy used to jump all the time but my Ped said it was normal. But if your Dr said to see a Neurologist then I would say make sure you keep the appointment...

Check out Dr. Sears website Askdrsears.com is great for information and I love his book The Baby Book.

Good luck,,,,

My daughter had the same exact thing. Was the baby premature? Mine was 6 weeks early and was caused because her nervous system was immature but it was totally harmless. It went away after 4 or 5 months. We went thru a million different tests too and everything was normal.

My daughter had tremors in her arms... we finally decided it was nerve damage sustained during delivery, and it went away when she was about 6 months.
