If by "restart" you mean you turned the power off and then on again, nothing should be missing.

If you mean that you formatted and reinstalled your OS, then no, your files are gone forever. It's a horrible thing that's happened to me several times and prompted me to invest in an external hard drive for constant backup.

Nope. Once your reformat the HD it is lost forever, unless, you have a spare $1500 - $5000 to purchase programs that can recover it. For the same price there are repair shops that can recover it also.

Go get out your DVD which you luckily saved all the data to last night in case such a catastrophic event were to occur.

You're probably logged in with a temporary profile... Check C:\documents and settings\yourusername\

You should see your My Documents, Music, etc here... make certain that they are not in here first.

Your profile is probably corrupt and needs to be recreated

Restart? or Do you mean RESTORE?

*IF* you did a system RESTORE, you LOST EVERYTHING!

As the Term implies, it RESTORES the computer to a "Out of the box New) state.

you can use "Recover My Files" software to get back your data.
it is a very good software with advanced data recovery algorithms.

if you restore and format your computer you lost it all, that's why partiton the hard disk it's a good idea.
