I think Terry was the best man for the job. I think he's a great player and he'll be a great leader for England. Did you want Gerrard to be captain? I didn't think he was fit for the job.

The current English side has 3 qualified captains who are themselves skippers for their respective clubs :

Steven Gerrard - Liverpool
John Terry - Chelsea
Gary Neville - Manchester United

Out of the three, the logical choice would be JOHN TERRY. Why?

- Vastly more experienced than Gerrard and Neville in a skipper role.
- Neville = right-back, Gerrard = midfield, Terry = central def.
From his position, has better vision of the field than the other two and is able to coordinate the defense and offense accordingly.

I have no doubt in my mind that Gerrard will get a taste of the captaincy but at this stage, Terry is the man for the job. Good pick Mclaren..!!!

John Terry is now Captain as Beckham stood down after the World Cup knockout.

As for is he fit enough for the job, I'd say there are several who are more than capable, Terry is just the person that was chosen at this stage.

I think John Terry will do an amazing job. Not exactly my first choice, that would be Steven Gerrard but I guess if not him Terry is fine.

i didnt think there was anyone sutible for the job... terry.. well no... gerrard doesnt hav it either... gerrard leads by example...
i think gary nevillle would hav been great.. but like he said him self.. he may not be there in 4 years time...
um well theres no one else 4 the job.. but i prob would hav liked gerrard 2 be the captain instead of terry... and hhey what about mickeal owen??? he would have been good...

anyway it doesnt matter... all i care about is that rooney should be captain one day...

I personally think he was the right man for the job. We needed someone firm instead of the nicey nicey David Beckham. Gerrard would definitely been able to do the job but I think Terry is the correct choice.

What the hell? He's JOHN TERRY. 'Nuff said. He rocks. One of the best defenders in the world. That's a fact.
