pickles, cereal, toast, pretzels, oatmeal, exc. I'm also eating fruits and veggies, but why am I wanting so many carbs?!? Right now I want a bowl of chips in vinegar but I just ate a big bowl of it and I'm not hungry at all but I have a strong desire to eat more of it. What is going on and should I eat it or not? I'm not showing yet and I weigh about 122. (This is my first pregnancy so I dont know what to do, and I dont want to do anything unhealthy for the baby)

why are you wanting so many carbs? it is a normal craving. sour stuff and sweet stuff too. i believe the carbs are mostly for energy. i craved these mostly at the end, and i remember reading it was my body's way of storing up enerygy for labor. anyway, small but frequent meals--balanced. protein too. and avoid some of those empty calories you do not need---like chips. don't forget to take your prenatals...

You're in a vicious carb circle and you need to get out FAST!

The more carbs you eat, the more you'll be hungry. And the more sugars you have, the same thing. Sugars & carbs burn up very quickly. And, when they do burn up, they leave you feeling starving. Your body is starving for real food.

Go through your pantry, throw away everything that's a white bread or bad carb. Don't buy any more of it. Stock up on fresh fruits & tons of veggies. And meat. Grill out, have chicken or steak. Make sure it's fully cooked.

Your baby will not get any nutritional nourishment from noodles. Or chips. Or any kind of carb. Baby needs protein. Calcium. Vitamin C. Iron. And so do you.

If you keep eating the way you are - you'll end up gaining 60 pounds, and have a lower birth weight baby. Eat right - now. Drink plenty of water. Water is a much needed thing for baby's growth, and mother's digestive system during pregnancy.

your body is just craving those things, to help nourish the baby. Its not unhealthy to eat those things, you should just eat thm proportionitly. Its actually better to eat the "real" stuff rather than the lowfat. or anything with aspertainme. Just be sure you are eating alot of fruits and veggies, and drinking plenty of water. I ate probaly just that. And my baby is 8 weeks old is is as healthy as can be. But I wouldn't worry about the eating, when your pregnant you need to eat more calories any way. Good luck with the baby!

It's most likely because those are the foods that you are lacking in your diet. My guess is that before you became pregnant you didn't eat a whole lot of carbs...therefore your body is craving the nutrients that come from carbohydrates. Most pregnant women crave what it is they are lacking...

For ex a girl I work with craves fish because she is lacking in protein...

As you can see this is not necessarily a bad thing. Just remember to eat the "healthy carbs" such as fruits more than the "unhealthy carbs"..but do not deprive your baby of the foods it needs to grow and develop.

Get a book about pregnancy. It will tell you about how much weight to gain and how much food you need to be eating. Your doctor should send you to a nutritionist as well. Basically, eat the way the food chart tells you. Then give into those cravings now and then. Don't forget to drink water. I usually crave salt when I am dehydrated. If you eat the chips slowly, and drink a big glass of water with it, it will be more satisfying and you will need less.

During my first pregnancy I ate every three hours, even waking at night to eat. Although I did not crave any food inparticular, I was just plain hungry. This lasted for my first trimester, but my friends and famiily were shocked and thought it was funny that I was eating all the time.

Try to stick to the healthy veggies, friut, oatmeal, cheese & crackers etc. if this is troubling you so, make an appointment and speak with your doctor.

Good Luck and Congrats.

I totally feel your pain. You're eating much healthier than I did...I craved Burger King hamburers, Barbeque, Ice Cream and Kit Kats...that's almost all I ate...everything else turned my stomache. Really it's sounds like what you are eating isn't too bad...just carb heavy. If you are concerned about putting on too much weight....portion out your meals..and try to balance your carbs with protein. (The Zone is a good reference for how to do this) When you have just eaten and you feel like you still want to...try drinking a glass of water and wait about 10 min. Usually your cravings will subside. Just make sure you are getting enough calories....ask you doctor about helping you with your diet. The book "What to Expect when you are Expecting" is also a good reference. It will answer alot of your precgancy questions, plus it has alot of good pregancy diet tips.

You don't HAVE to eat just because you are pregnant, and craving. If you know you are not hungry, then don't eat. The same rules apply for eating noe that your pregnant. If you binge now, you will gain more weight than you need, andwill struggle to lose it when you are done, Eat when you are hungry, and untill you are full, then stop. Drink lots of water. You are craving carbs, porobab;y because your body need the energy, just don't over-do it.
