I was married for 18 yrs. to my first husband, our marriage was one of existence for our children, later on in the marriage I found out that he had been seeing other women on the side for years...and I really wasn't surprised. Anyway, after 18 years, I'm sure your partner (wife) realizes that the love isn't there but your child is. If I'm unhappy, then I know that the people around me sense this. Sit down with here and have a long talk about your relationship, you will pro bally be surprised to find out what she already knows and like you, she only wants to make sure that your child is protected from anything they may sense or fear. If you don't love this woman after 18 years then you never will. Chances are she is just as unhappy, find a civil, adult and mature way to end the marriage with doing as little harm emotionally to your child as possible. Both parents need to make sure that they are there for the child, to reassure the child that life will be different but that you will both be their physically as well as emotionally for your child. Both being adults, I'm sure you can handle this. Best of luck.

BTW you have responsibility to any minor children. To pay support and education. If you can wait until your child is out of school it would be best for all concerned parties. Buy a futon and sleep in the basement, just don't leave the house until the kid has. Then when the kid walks across the stage at college graduation serve her with the papers. Tell her it's time to end it. If she has a clue, she didn't want to be the 1st to announce it.
Get a lawyer. File papers. Find an apartment, split the assets, and move on.

What is it about her that you don't love? You made a commitment before God and people for life. You can not simply say, I don't love you anymore, I want a divorce. You are stuck...divorce is not an option so..............work on your marriage. What don't you like? How can you improve? How can she? Both need to let their guard down so that you can have intimate talks. This should have happened years ago. It is not to late. You will be suprised what you will find in your relationship. Why break your vow trying to trade up. Their is no guarantee that the next person will be better. Everyone has good qualities to love. Find out what those are and allow yourself to love.......Peace.

By first depending on your state laws by a separation period or because of adultery which to my understanding don't have any waiting period.
You be honest with her and tell her you no longer want to be married to her but for the sake of your child, you will remain friends and you will make sure that she get what is rightfully legally hers to keep down conflict.
Don't say hurtful things but be open and honest and tell her you need to separate and from there, you have to file for a divorce after you meet other legal requirements.

Time for a sit down and explanation. I would NOT tell her that you have not loved her for 18 years, that would be crushing and is not needed to get your point across. I would explain your not happy and have no desire to be married any longer. If she comes back with " lets try and work things out", explain you have no desire to work on things and will be filing for a divorce on ( Nov 1st ) for example.

how is the best way to divorce her or how is the best way to tell her you want a divorce. The best way to get a divorce is to start with hiring a lawyer, the best way to tell her is honesty, straight forward, she is going to be hurt no matter what way you say it. So just say the truth that way there aren't any questions......

How exactly do you define love? I find there are too many people on this board who confuse it with selfish infatuation...and without more details, I don't know whether to be mad at her, or mad at you.
