its because these two countries invested in their businesses and did not blow there profits on fat cat directors and managers who could not perform. they know how to give the customer what they want and how to analyse the best way to do it instead of just saying this is costing too much sack a few staff to get the wage bill down.

Why not? They have skills and good work ethic. They seek innovative ways to succeed. The japanese in particular developed ways to running a factory that nearly put the US ones out of business.
US is unwilling to change and advance they are too worried about upsetting the unions.

Because they can - why shouldn't they - it's a free world (or part of it anyway) and people compete it's just nature and part of how the world works.

Because they have great wages, benefits, job security, pensions and products.
With job security the country gets financial security, plus a more contented population who are loyal to the firm.
Go figure it.

Because they are simply better at it, besides, if you believe in freedom and free enterprise, why shouldn't they be able to. I always find it funny when Americans proclaim their belief in free enterprise but when somebody else is better at it, all of a sudden it's bad or wrong.

If your linking this to WWll then it's because it is long over and they make better products then america. Those countrys still have the right to make profit.

Good question, and why are the British so crap at it now? there are no brit cars left but the frogs and crouts have loads, peugot, renault and citroen, VW and audi.
