I know it's not really a popular choice, but I liked Colin Baker in the role myself. Yes, Tom Baker is who I immediately think of when I think of Dr. Who. I loved Tom Baker as Dr. Who. He just didn't play the Doctor as I would envision him to be, if that makes any sense.

Tom Baker of course, but then we have to acknowledge that as easily as we must acknowledge that Avery Brooks was easily the best Star Trek captain. A better question would be who is the best runner up (like that Patrick Stewart fella in Star Trek).
Best runner up: Christoper Eccleston. He was amazing and I'm sorry he left after only one season.
