The Government knows, and probably has known ever since the days of the Warren Commission, or at least since the days of the House Select Committee on Assassinations. Problem is, those records are sealed until 2029. Only thing we know for sure is that it WASN'T Lee Harvey Oswald. The Warren Report says he got off three shots from the Texas School Book Depository with deadly precision in less than six seconds, despite the fact that the sights on his gun were so badly misaligned the Army Corps of Engineers had to put shims in. No one, NO ONE who has ever attempted to reproduce that shooting job (and some of the best marksmen in the world were called out to try) was able to do it.

Judging from the ballistics, etc., I just don't buy the official story. That's not to say that all the conspiracy theories are true. Just that the Warren Commission version is not.
It's not absolutely impossible that the "Oswald" version occurred, But is that the standard? I'd say that it's far, far less likely than other scenarios.
By the way, I was in Dallas several years ago, and of course toured the site. Stood in the sixth floor window, and behind the fence on the grassy knoll. I wasn't the only one there doing this.
There is a small memorial in town, and a museum. Actually, more than one. Pick the version you believe.

I think it was Oswald, but he was a Manchurian Candidate, under control by the CIA, JFK was making them look incompetent during the whole Bay of Pigs thing. And even if it wasn't Oswald, it was someone involved in the CIA.
