I am getting ready to put in my 2 weeks notice at my current job. This is the first "real job" I have had so I am not sure what to say or what kind of wording to use in my resignation letter. It would be great if you could provide me with a generic resignation letter.

This letter is to notify you of my two week notice of resignation.

Keep it simple.

Buy a boom box with the tape "Take this job and shove it " and play it loud and clear so everyone can hear it ! :)
Another good way to resign from your job would be to win the lottery and would make the previous suggestion so much sweeter.
I am sure that the recent lottery winners in Wisconsin have already done just that.

To whomever it may concern:
This is a formal resignation letter of my employment with your company (instead of company insert the name of your organization).I hereby formally and in writing submitting my 2 weeks notice to terminate my employment due to (insert reason here..could be illness, stress, family problems,or moving etc.).
Thank you for your time and consideration on this matter and I am also requesting a letter of recommendation to submit to my future employer(s).
Thank -You
Sincerely
(insert your name in writing and also printed or typed)

I think before you put your resignation in written form, you should speak directly to your supervisor and tell them that you are giving your two week notice and ask your supervisor if the company requires you to do so in written form. If you every need that supervisor as a reference they will remember that you took the personal approach rather than just handing in some generic letter.

You need to ask to speak to your supervisor, ask him/her that you need about 5 minutes of her time. Sit down, be very upbeat, and stay professional. Make sure you tell the supervisor that you have enjoyed working for her. There is a saying, don't burn your bridges. b/c u never know if you will need her as a reference or deal with the company or its workers in the future.....

Write a very short letter that simply states that you have enjoyed working for the company for x amount of time; however you have been offered an opportunity that you can not turn down that you feel is a wonderful step foward in your career.

Here are some sites that you can use as a guide to write yours

The letter need only contain something like:

(your name)
(your address)
(date)

(company name)
(boss's address)

Dear (Mr,Miss,Mrs or Ms) (lastname)

With this letter, I do hereby tender my resignation to take
effect on (the last day you are there).

Sincerely,

(your name)

---------------------

That being said, when you give this thing to your boss, you
may want to explain why, how you felt about working with
him or her etc. It will really depend on WHY you are leaving.

Note, however, that the letter should contain only the fact
that you are resigning and the effective date, because it is
a legal document which might end up coming back to bite
you. The less said on it, the better.

It is with great reluctance I submit my resignation, effective ________.
OR
It is with regret and anticipation that I submit this letter of resignation, effective __________.
OR
Circumstances require that I resign my position as _______, effective ___________. Whatever you might choose, two weeks notice is always best, it gives your employer time to hire someone new and it gives you time to say your good-byes.

Always made a great impression with my fellow co-workers, when I'd say, "Take this job and shove it, I ain't working her no more......". Seriously, anything you say positive about your appreciation for their faith in giving you the job in the first place, always seems to keep things peaceful. Nix any negative comments. Good Luck

You don't need to write a letter, just tell your boss in a respectful way and be sure to be polite. Give as much notice as possible, and remember not to burn any bridges, you will need them for a reference.
