The best thing to use is a tool that garages use for scraping off inspection stickers. It has a razor blade mounted to a handle and you push it at the decal at a sharp angle. The razor goes beneath the decal and lifts it up, and you can usually get all the sticky residue with the tool as well.

this is a practical question for a change (-: ... to start with you need a putty knife and a plain old bic. lighter heat the decal up carefuly and then lightly scrape it off , it will take a couple of times but it will do the job

You can try to loosen it by soaking a sponge in vinegar and warm water then hold it to the decal for a while. Keep it moist until it soaks through to the glue.

A ONE SIDED RAZOR BLADE ALWAYS WORKS FOR ME.
YOU CAN BUY A BLADE HOLDER AT ANY AUTO PARTS STORE.
TO REMOVE THE LEFT OVER GLUE RESIDUE YOU CAN GET A PRODUCT CALLED ACRALAK MADE BY KARDOL.
IT WILL ALSO CLEAN STAINS OFF UPHOLSTERY.
IN A PINCH REGULAR GAS WILL DO THE TRICK BUT YOU HAVE TO BE REALLY CAREFULL

WD40, spray a little on, let it sit for 5 minutes, wipe off or may have to scrape off. WD40 is good for removing things
