I'm a Junior and at my school, we have to plan the Senior prom. I'm the chairperson of the so-called prom comittee, but thus far a 'comittee' hasn't comitted. HELP!

Are proms supposed to have themes?
Does anybody know of any good ones?
How about color schemes?
Small gifts for attending?

I was thinking about Moulin Rouge, The Secret Garden, Paris or Las Vegas. What do you guys think?

Las Vegas would be cool! you could decorate with poker chips and stuff. I always wanted to do a hollywood themed prom. Have everyone arive on the red carpet, have pics taken of them, have the school paper interview people about what they were wearing..lol..only they could ask about more practical things that would apply to the night. As souvenires people could make their hand prints and sign there name like at the Chinese Theatre, only with poster board and paint. Name tags could be their own little star from the hollywood walk of fame. Decor could be cutouts and posters of movie stars and classic movies. You could talk to the Drama Club about voluteering for the night too, by dressing up as movie stars, and offering to take pics and stuff. It fit in our budget which was right around 2500 but we went for Paris Night or something like that instead. But doesn't that sound fun? Everyone for one night would get treated like a celeb. Also, since it's the end of the year, you could give out "oscars" to most athletic, funniest, best dressed, whatever. Good Luck!! Keep in touch with me and let me know what you guys plan. I was head of our prom committee and i had so much fun with it!

When I was in High School I was on the prom committee, the easiest way to do this is to start with what the budget. Proms are expensive and decorations are not cheap. The coolest themes that I have come across this year are:

Night Under the Big Top: a circus theme (wide range of colors)
Winter Wonderland: Snow theme (silver and white for colors)
Treasure Island: A pirate theme (brown, black, gold, silver)
Candyland: A sweet land of Candy theme (rainbow of colors)
Nightlife Dream: Nightclub Theme (all colors)
Hawaiian Wonderland: Hawaiian Theme (all bright tropical colors)

Bubbles, candles, and keychains are good small gifts.

Good Luck

My boyfriend's prom last year was Oasis Under the Stars and it was so awesome! They had a chocolate fountain, purple and pink scarves draped from the ceiling (think Disney's Aladdin), gold painted statues of like birds and stuff. It was just the best! After prom was Midnight Fiesta. The small gifts were a free picture with your date, picture frames, a crazy light up cup, mini maracas, and then you could win prizes and money. There was lazar tag, money machine, poker and blackjack, video games, bowling, remote controlled car racing, blow up obstacle course, mechanical bull, battle of the bands, dancing, food and drinks... and that's all I can remember, but there was more.
My school's prom was themed A Night at the Oscars or something and it had like a blockbuster theme with like cardboard cutouts of stars. I didn't go because we went overboard at my boyfriends prom and rented a Hummer stretch and stuff.. $$$!
I really like the Moulin Rouge and Secret Garden ideas. I think the Secret Garden could be lots of fun because you could have fun decorating that... but at the same time, Moulin Rouge could be cool with like lots of red scarves and stuff everywhere.
Good luck with the "committee." Hope this gives you ideas!

I did Titanic for the senior prom when I was in high school. It was so romantic. I had these miniature glass bottles with the prom theme written on them and put them inside as keepsakes. They loved it.
