How do i get my firewire card to keep detecting my camera?

I have a sony handycam and pcmcia 1394 card on my laptop. Every time i connect my camera to my laptop it detects it, but when i try to transfer video it stops detecting my camera. My camera says ''Dv in'' in the upper right corner when i am in playback mode and have connected my camera but the ''Dv in'' always seems to disappear when i try to transfer video, and thus i think thats the reason why it doesn't detect my camera anymore. How could i solve this?

I think this is a problem with your PCMCIA Card which has some latency and your laptop the disengages the connection. Guess you need to get that card checked in a different laptop before u go for replacing it.
