You do have a couple of salient points but I believe that most people are concientious voters.

Take a look at these questions and the responses they received. I think the questioners deserve their 5 points back. None of the answers really fits what is being asked, and some of the responses are downright rude!

I am investigating about industerial beta carotene extractio from dunaliella salina? Gaming for points.

"isn't it still possible to pick at least one answer that is better than the others?" . . . . In these particular instances I would have to disagree with you. These people deserve to have their 5 points back IMHO.

These are just a few of the questions I found just this morning, I see dozens of them every time I vote. Sometimes this is why the questionor can't elect the Best Answer, there isn't any! None of these responses does justice to the question.

Whew! Glad I got that off my chest. Thank you for the question.

No. I think when people pick a No Best Answer it's because there isn't an answer posted that appeals to them.

There are so many crazy answers on this site, so many really off the wall answers & so many people just wanting 2 points & not caring what answer they give, that choosing No Best Answer is sometimes the proper choice.

Look at it this way :

You( or the question asker) started the trend of casting to vote
(= no best answer from the asker view)

The yahoo guidelines gives
Choose a best answer for your question : 3 points
No Best Answer was selected by voters on your question Points Returned: 5

When we hit no best answer, you actually are getting back 5 points , so the question did not cost you.

The audience is Sympathizing with you to get you back your 5 points as the best answer did not matter.. and you are complaining?

You have all answers , that would make sense or may not.
Is the "This is the best answers by audience vote" really that important ?

I think some people really don't like the answers given, so they give a "no best answer", but there are those (and there are always going to be people like them) who just vote that way for the rating points...too bad, because most people genuinely are answering to the best of their knowledge and deserve the points if warranted.....

considering that we receive no points for choosing "no best answer" i think it must be a decision based off of reviewing all answers, but not finding the best one.

upon voting, i read the question then the "best answer". before doing a community rating, i take the time to read the other answers. if i agree with the "best answer" i will give it a thumbs up. if there are no answers that i feel answer the question the best... i won't vote.

if a best answer needs to be chosen, i will read all the answers first. if none of them are answering the specific question... i will choose "no best answer". if an answer is close enough to lead the person asking the question to find the answer, i might consider it.

most people who answer these questions are doing so just to get the points and dont give a care about what they answer or the people... and for the people who ask the questions ... most ask questions that have no best answer or do it just to be asking it

When I pick no best answer, it is because it is a question that I believe, I would have had a better answer to, but they wouldn't let me answer it.

I think they don't care. If it's a serious question they get the answer and forget about it. But if it's a dumb question, don't expect those to get a best answer.
