I know you have to have a password to connect. They are willing to let me use their network, but how do I find out how to link up using their service?

How do they find out what the password or wep is? It is a wired connection for a desktop computer.

They just have a regular desktop computer that's connected to the internet but no wireless router or anything.

If they're willing to let you connect, then they should have given you the info. If not, then ask.
If it's a wireless connection, remind them that they can set up multiple passwords / IDs in their router.
If they didn't, and they won't.... this is a huge hint that they're NOT open to you using their network.
And if you've never technically asked them... you're trying to force entry aka hack your way in... Which is very illegal. Not to mention it'll piss them off.

well you need to get the wep key in order for you to connect to your friends network. Unless you are trying to use someone else internet, then that would be different question.

well since they're letting u... if it's wireless, you have to be in range of their network and ur wireless card has to be compatible with their router (if they have an 802.11 g router u have to have an 802.11g wireless card, if they have a different one, ur card has to match that letter). if it's just a regular lan, you have to have a wired connection to them, so u'd have to be in their house/office.

if you talk about wireless, ask them for password. wep
or/and have them put your mac address into their restrict list.
If it is wired, just ask for ip address, it should work
