You need to do a couple of things. First off, figure out what specific type of animal you are getting. Then get back on the net and Google that. In this case, probably North American box turtle. You can plenty of info on the care that way. They don't eat bugs...they are vegetarian. But be careful, because that doesn't mean they'll eat anything that's not a bug. You could feed the poor thing something that would kill it. Do your research before you go getting the little critter.

Box turtles eat about 75% bugs in the wild- insects, worms, snails, etc. The rest of the diet is 'roughage' (grass, leaves, etc.) with a little vegetables and fruits mixed in.

It kind of bothers me that you don't want to feed a turtle its proper diet. You may want to rethink this.

I got minnowd for my painted turtle. You can give vegetable stuff to a box turtle and pet stores sell turtle food.

box turtles do not belong in water, another answerer stated that theirs is in water with a rock to climb on. Box turtles belong in a terrerium. you can feed it veggies and some bugs. please do a lot of research prior to getting one.

I have a boxy. Therye' great! Albert absolutely LOVES worms and beetles. He goes for grubs too. Sometimes he eats lettuce if he's in a good mood. It is also important to fill your tank up with water and put a big rock he can climb on in there. If he can't get his whole shell wet then parts of it will dry out and he can get diseases. Good luck!
