Ronny Alexander Cedeño (born February 2, 1983 in Carabobo State, Venezuela) is a shortstop for the Chicago Cubs. He bats and throws right handed. After making his big-league debut for the Cubs on April 23, 2005, he became the team's starting shorstop in 2006. He has drawn comparisons to fellow Venezuelan Omar Vizquel.

Cedeño has spent his five-season minor league career playing in the Cubs' farm system, reaching the Double-A level in 2004 with the Diamond Jaxx. In 116 games he posted a .279 batting average with six home runs and 48 RBI. He was selected as a midseason Southern League All-Star.

Cedeño was called up in April 2005 to replace Nomar Garciaparra on the Cubs' roster, but spent most of his time on the bench, as Neifi Pérez was awarded the starting job. After the Cubs signed Enrique Wilson, Cedeño was sent back down to the Iowa Cubs (AAA). In 65 games at Iowa in 2005, Cedeño batted an impressive .355, and slugged over .500 for the first time in his professional career. He returned to the Cubs in June after Wilson was himself sent down to Iowa

Ronny's aggressive when it comes to throwing the ball which causes him to make errors throwing to 1st. By having him at 2nd, he has less of a throwing distance so he'll have more time to get his footing and fire to first. And he carries over the same great range he has at short. With that, he should be a solid 2nd baseman.

Next year, with Aramis Ramiraz, Cesar Izturis, Ronny and Derrek Lee, the Cubs theoretically have the best defensive infield. But Ronny needs to mature with the bat, and Izturis is the second coming of Neifi Perez when it comes to hitting. So it'll hurt to not have Todd Walker's bat.

And really, don't expect him to hit homers. He might one day progress to a 15 homer a year player, but he's much better as a line gapper for doubles batting in the 7th or 8th hole. Although he could be solid in the 2nd spot.

I think Ronny Cedeno would be better in the minors. Along with most of his teammates. The ones not on the DL anyway.

Yea it certainly does seem like the transition to second has helped. And he also said that it's easier for him to play at second, so I'm guessing with time, he'll end up being a lot better then he was at shortstop. Since he's more comfortbale playing at second, his confidence will go up and that will and looks like it already has started affecting his offensive game...

Go Cubs!!!

I think he is better at shortstop but Cesar Izturis is one of the best fielding shortstops in the majors, so in my opinion the Cubs are better off with him at second base so Izturis can play short.
