A huge question...but a good one. Perhaps more people should take time to ask that question and try to come up with answers. Peace starts with every one of us, not just the rulers of powerful countries
I would say that increased empathy would lead to peace.
If we all just put ourselves in the other person's shoes I think we'd do things differently. Empathy leads to understanding and understanding eliminates fear and hate.

several solutions, 1. lots of drugs that make everyone chill out and eventually go sterile 2. more education, less organized religion 3. (extreme) the city from aeonflux complete with giant wall and reprograming
of course true peace is not actually possible because we, as a species, are dominated by our competitiveness and where competition is good for our species as a whole, jealousy is our destroyer

It would take civilians to find themselves a better job than the armed forces. If we hadn't got these politicians would very quickly find another way of resolving conflict.

I think that if everyone would just except the fact that people are entitled to their own beliefs, and we all don't have to have the same religion things would be alot better. "LIVE AND LET LIVE"

the ability for each of us as individuals to let go of our selfrighteousness, and need for everyone to share our values, religions, politics and perceptions, and embrace diversity rather than fearing the unknown and to see others first and above all else as humans that deserve the same dignity we expect for ourselves, regardless, of immigrant status, country of origin, religion, sexual orientation, political party, socioeconomic class, race, gender, whatever, rather than using the dehumanizing labels we assign to others as we apathetically regard them as subhumans and ignorantly assume we are experts about those different cause we know all about their ulterior motives out of fear and hatred for the unknown
