A hurricane, typhoon, or cyclone are all the same. It depends on where they form. Pacific typhoons tend to be bigger and stronger than an Atlantic hurricane simply because of higher sea surface temperatures and greater distances which means a longer time over warmer water. Since they generate their power from the ocean's heat this allows a typhoon to tend to be larger.

A hurricane is just a tropical cyclone in the Atlantic and a typhoon is one in the northwest Pacific.
A "Super" typhoon is a typhoon that's over 150 MPH. That would be the equivilent of Wilma, Katrina, Emily, Rita and Dennis of last year and Ivan and Charley of 2004.

As everyone before me has already stated: Hurricanes are in the Atlantic while Typhoons are in the Pacific, and Cyclones in the Indian Ocean.
But in answer to the "super" part of your question: Since the Pacific is much larger than the Atlantic, these storms have the opportunity to grow so much larger and stronger than their Atlantic siblings.
BTW: The Pacific Ocean was given this name because it means "passive" (or calm). Looking at the storms generated there -- boy were they wrong!

Nothing except the name. Tropical storms are called hurricanes in the Atlantic, typhoons in the Pacific, and cyclones in the Indian ocean. This is of utterly no use except to propagate confusion.
