Jim can fill 1/30 = 3/90 of the pool in a minute
Sue can fill 1/45 = 2/90 of the pool in a minute
Tony can fill 1/90 of the pool in a minute

All three working at once could fill (1+2+3)/90 = 6/90 = 1/15 of the pool in a minute. Hence, it would take them 15 minutes to fill the pool working in tandem.

man, this is a basic math question.

all three of them can fill the pool together in exactly 15 minutes.

how?

guess what:
jim fills 1/2 of the pool in 15 minutes.
sue fills 1/3 of the pool in 15 minutes
tony fills 1/6 of the pool in 15 minutes.

add them:

1/2 + 1/3 + 1/6 = 3/6 + 2/6 + 1/6 = (3 + 2 + 1)/6 = 6/6 = 1 (that`s one pool)

the solving method now [you saw above the answer and the arguments]:

jim can fill 1 pool in 30 mins => in 1 min he can fill 1/30 of the pool
sue can fill 1 pool in 45 mins => in 1 min he can fill 1/45 of the pool
tony can fill 1 pool in 90 mins => in 1 min he can fill 1/90 of the pool

if all three of them are working, that means that they fill in one minute:
1/30 + 1/45 + 1/90 = 3/90 + 2/90 + 1/90 = 6/90

so now, in how many minutes do they fill the pool? how many times do we need to add the "6" to obtain 90? 90/6 times. that`s 15 times. so in 15 minutes the pool will be full if all of them work together.

They each contribute, Jim does 1/2 the work. Do it this way:

1/(1/30 + 1/45 + 1/90) = 15 minutes

Jim can fill a pool in =30 minutes =1/2hour
It means in one hour Jim can fill 2 pool....................(i)
Similaly Sue can fill 4/3 pool..................(ii)
and Tony can fill 2/3 pool...................(iii)
If all will work together then in one hour they can fill pools =2+4/3+2/3=(6+4+2)/3 =12/3 = 4 pools
It means 4 pools are filled in one hour
or a pool is filled in 1/4 hours
Ans should be 15 minutes

Slim Jim: 1 [job] / 30 [minutes]
Runaround Sue: 1 [job] / 45 [minutes]
Fat Tony: 1 [job] / 90 [minutes]

1 [job] / [ (1/90) + (1/45) + (1/30) ] [job/minutes]

=1 [job] / [ (1/90) + (2/90) + (3/90) ] [job/minutes]
=1 [ job] / [ (6/90) ] [job/minutes]

= 1 [ job] * [ (90/6) ] [minutes/job]
=15 minutes

If Jim can do it in 30 minutes, and he's going to have help it will be less than 30 minutes.

this is one of those trick questions, yes? answer 45 minutes. because as soon as they all start together jim will look at his watch and complain how he cant do it now because the big game is about to start on the tv, jim will then say, oh yeah! i wanted to see that too, leaving poor sue to do all the work on her own.
as usual.
men! bah!

hint: Write what you already know. Variables: j = Jim's cost s = Sue's cost t = Tony's cost Given: Jim can fill a pool wearing buckets of water in 30 minutes j = one million pool / 30 min Given: Sue can do the comparable interest in 40 5 minutes. skill: s = one million pool / 40 5 min. Given: Tony can do the comparable interest in one million.5 hours. skill: t = one million pool / one million.5 hours Convert each and all of the non-hour costs to costs in hours. j = one million pool / [30 min * (hour / 60 min)] = one million pool / 0.5 hour s = one million pool / [40 5 min * (hour / 60 min)] = one million pool / 0.75 hour you at the instant have: j = one million / 0.5 hour s = one million / 0.75 hour t = one million / one million.5 hours cost at the same time = one million pool / x hours j + s + t = one million / x (one million / 0.5) + (one million / 0.75) + (one million / one million.5) = one million / x Multiply the two facets by applying the liquid crystal demonstrate one million.5. one million.5[(one million / 0.5) + (one million / 0.75) + (one million / one million.5)] = one million.5(one million / x) one million.5[(one million / 0.5) + (one million / 0.75) + (one million / one million.5)] = one million.5(one million / x) one million.5(one million / 0.5) + one million.5(one million / 0.75) + one million.5(one million / one million.5) = (one million.5 / x) 3 + 2 + one million = one million.5 / x 6 = one million.5 / x go-multiply. 6 * x = one million.5 * one million 6x = one million.5 6x / 6 = one million.5 / 6 x = 0.25 they are able to fill the pool in 0.25 hour at the same time. Convert this to minutes. 0.25 hour * (60 min / hour) = 15 min answer: they are able to fill the pool in 15 min in the event that they artwork at the same time.
