I don't think so that it is a reason to loose weight. if you are breastfeedeing and won't eat adequate meal than that's when you loose weight. It is mainly the good balance of your meal that can make you loose weight though breastfeeding can give some help.
As you know while during pregnancy, your body automatically layered on extra fatty tissue so you will have enough fat stores to begin and support breastfeeding. After you have your baby, however, if what you eat is varied and well balanced, breastfeeding can help you lose your pregnancy weight without compromising either your or your baby's health by dieting. And you naturally burn calories to make breast milk every time you nurse.
Diet, vigorous exercise , or skipping meals may quickly drop pounds, but they may cause release of higher levels of toxins in the breast milk which won't be any good to the baby. Breast milk remains the healthiest food for your baby, so don't let this deter you from breastfeeding. Working toward a gradual weight loss, eating when you're hungry, and make sure you get enough fluids, are the best way of losing weight easily and safely for both the mother and the baby..

In theory it's true. You are using up so many more calories making the milk, but on the flip side you need to consume more calories to keep your milk production up. I never noticed the pounds dropping off of me like I had hoped they would, but I was steadily losing weight the whole time. The added benefit for mom is that breastfeeding releases happy and relaxing hormones and chemicals during breastfeeding. So, you just downright feel better in general. Plus there are benefits for mom in decreasing your chances at breast cancer.

It's true, but only if you don't eat more too. You burn about 350 calories more a day breastfeeding your baby exclusively (no formula, no solids). 350 calories is like one ice cream bar. If you watch what you eat, drink lots of water and nurse the baby every two hours around the clock, yes you will lose all the baby weight fast.

Yep. Burns 500 calories a day. Equivalent to running the treadmill for an hour.
I lost albout 25 lbs in a couple months. You have to continue to eat healthy because if you don't eat enough, toxic substances from your body can travel into your breast milk.
So, stay healthy and you willl steadily lose weight.

it is very true. when your body produces milk, it requires more calories to burn because the process of making milk is a high metabolic process...meaning, it requires alot of energy and fuel to be done successfully. when you breastfeed for months, your body is going to burn more and more energy...if you dont eat more calories during this time and continue to eat the same amount of food as you did before pregnancy (meaning, you dont take in any additional calories in order to burn during the milk production process), you will get the energy you need to make milk from your fat cells. women who breastfeed therefore tend to lose more weight because the body will go to the fat for the energy it needs.

Yes! From BREASTFEEDING ANSWER BOOK, 3rd Edition, 2003. "Breastfeeding mothers tend to lose more weight when their babies are three to six months old than formula-feeding mothers who consume fewer calories."
