Can it be a guy? And does he have to be famous? And is it ok if he isn't blonde? And has a mustache? And lives in Hawaii? And drives a really groovy cool red car instead of a really groovy cool silver one? And is totally fallable cause I so love fallable men that somehow end up kinda sorta successful after solving things in their own rebellious unorthodox way? If that is ok......then I so wanna be Magnum P.I.

My new name........ Magnum_not_Marianne

(Magnum Dee Eye) **glues on the mustache and chest hair just for effect**

Why, Marcus Didius Falco of course. A Roman informer in the early days of Vespasian's rule as emperor (AD71), he had a disreputable father, an overbearing mother, a friend who knows him too well and a wife who's way out of his league (but then, which husband doesn't?). Also now tries to go about his investigations while trailing two baby daughters, assorted relatives of varying degrees of competence, and a dog with more enthusiasm than sense.

He's famous among fans of comic mysteries, and has won his creator many awards. He should be much more famous than he is though, which is one of the reasons I stole his name and take every opportunity to bore people witless about him. Check out the links for more information. If you're new to the books, start with the Silver Pigs and go from there ;o)

Inspector Gadget! When I'm stuck in traffic I still wish I could say "Go go Gadget chopper" and just fly home.
