There are no straight answers to this. Infatuation, basically, is fleeting - it doesn't last. Love lasts.

All the first signs are the same for each - heart beats faster when you see the person, you think about them day and night, you want to be with the person all the time. This rush usually lasts 3 months - as proven by experience and the scientific research. This is due to a key hormone only lasting that long.

When the 3 months is up and being around the person isn't a rush: if you care for them even more then you did before it's probably love but if you aren't as interested then it's infatuation.

There is no real answer to this question but what I have learned of what love is to me and that is the word LOVE itself holds the answer.......

(L)isten: and validate them by hearing and empathizing.
(O)verlook: their minor character flaws as they will overlook yours.
(V)alue: who they are and what they mean to you.
(E)xpress: how you love them not just with words but with actions.
If none of these are present then it is Infatuation...
