Yes I was 3 cm and 80% effaced for 2 weeks. If you are towards the end of your pregnancy then 4 cm is fine. It is just your body getting ready. You should lose your mucus plug next (for some people it comes out in clumps others it comes out a little over time). Then just be prepared. I would get your bag packed though. With my first I waited too long and my husband had to pack for me when I was in the hospital. Lets just say I had a flannel shirt of my husband's to wear home from the hospital and he couldn't tell the difference between the breast feeding bras and my regular. I looked awful.
Good Luck

Yes, you can. I am pregnant with baby number 5 and ALL four of my other kids were delivered because I was sitting at 5 cm or higher without contractions. One of my sons (they are all boys) was 2 months early and I was 7 cm when I went in for a check up. I am 38 weeks tomorrow and sitting at 3 cm, the only one I have carried this long!
Good luck, hopefully it won't be much longer.

Yep..I had random painless contractions for awhile....I went from work to my doctors office for my regular weekly visit and she said I was 4 cent. dilated so she sent me to the hospital and I actually just started going into labor...she helped my moving my bag of water away from cerivix or something....it hurt...but it worked!
