That would depend on how specifically you define species. The Bible says 2, 1 male and 1 female, of each animal. So, for instance, a lion is an animal so 2 lions. But is a lion a species? or is "CAT" the species? If CAT is the species, then you have lions, tigers, leopards, jaguars, panthers, ocelots, pumas, lynxs, etc etc etc. so Noah may have put a couple of hundred of the species "CAT" on board. Conversely, if there are only 2 kinds of elephants (African and Indian), then he only put 4 of that species on board. I think your use of the word species unnecessarily confuses and complicates the issue. I would maintain he put 2 of every animal on board (plus any babies which which the females may have already been pregnant),

There were 2 mating animals of every species. Plus enough other animals to feed everyone for the time spent confined to the ark.

There are two versions in the Bible--one says two of all, and one says two of all unclean and 7 of all clean (kosher). After all, Noah had to have something to eat!
