The job interview is all about painting a picture. A believable, relevant, concise and intelligent picture. The resume has to match the personal appearance (attire, hair, make-up, etc.) has to match the ten mini-stories you should know by heart backward and forward.
A person's entire life can typically be distilled down to ten 90-second stories. These stories, like any story, have several pieces: a conflict or call to action, actions you personally took, and the quantifiable outcomes. As a frequent interviewer of middle-level managers and directors, that's all I'm looking for.
So you're scared. I got it. So is everyone else who is going after something they really want. Do you have 24" sweat stains below your underarms? Are you perspiring profusely? Do you have body odor? No? Good. Then suck it up, you have the same fears as everyone else.
Therapy is probably a good plan for the past trauma, but the whold discussion has no place in a job interview. I'm hiring someone because they can or can't do the job - past conflicts, trauma, lawsuits, etc. just tell me they can't handle the job. Leave that stuff at home. Don't lie, just don't bring it up!
OK, now you're ready. A resume. 10 stories. Everything matches. Go get that great job!

I think you should definately get some counseling. The fact that your past experiences have taken a toll on you emotionally and professionally should be an indication to you that it is a problem. You shouldn't have to go through that pain over and over any time you go on an interview. You shouldn't shut down and hold it in. You should be able to talk to your friends about it as well. Getting it out and sharing the experience allows you to confront the pain and move on. It won't be easy, but you'll be much happier when you do.

Yes, Job interviews are scary. Especially if your co-workers harmed you in a past job and you have to cover it up and say positive things...been there to a lesser extent. I talked it over with friends and family and felt better. Some understood, some didn't. You might seek counseling and get the things off of your chest so you can get up and move on. You might also get advice on interviewing techniques so you can feel more confident.

I would advise seeking counseling as well. I too have had a few bad past work-related experiences, so I understand what you are going through.
What work for me, was to think: "This is a new experience, no one knows of my past, and this could be the beginning of a great career" before beginning my interview.
Good luck to you....

I say use it to your advantage. Use your weakness as a weapon. Subtle work abuse stories make for great sympathy on the employers part. They might hire you because they pity you. You never know. I have always believed that the truth will set you free, don't lie unless need be for survival.

There is actually a stage fright drug that has been proven to help with these types of issues. Talk to your doctor and see if this is something you can consider taking before interviews.

Abuse can bring trauma and phobias, but not all jobs interviews are bad. You just need to pull your self together and go for gusto...you'll be alright.

Just continually rehearse in your head what you are going to say about that particular job. Remember - its not a lie if you believe it.
Good luck =)
