The current pact of liberals in office is for the most part, sniveling obstructionists. At one time in our history being a liberal stood for something. The Founding Father's were considered liberal 230 yrs. ago. During the civil war, liberals (and I mean Republicans) fought against slavery and risked their lives to bring southern slaves to freedom. They ran the Underground Railroad and provided save havens. Liberals once fought for noble causes like the right for women to vote, school de-segregation and civil rights.

Now liberals (in most cases Democrats) oppose the same things they once fought for. When Lyndon Johnson wanted the Civil Rights Act passed, the Democrats opposed it. It was up to the moderate Republicans to pass it into law. They once fought for African Americans to receive the same education the whites received. Now they oppose the use of a school voucher that will let some one go to a school where they can get a better education. Liberals once stood up for preserving life and now support the murder of a life because it is unborn.

Liberals used to be unified in a strong national defense. They supported and fought evil in World War I and World War II. They were right to oppose the conflict in Vietnam, but they have not been able to see past that conflict. Liberals have fought to undermine the War on Terror practically from the get go. As I write this today a major terrorist plot was defeated by the British and most of the ring leaders arrested. Had the American press got hold of the information, it would have been printed and broadcast to the world weeks or months ago and the terrorists would have been able to re-group.

The last thing I will mention is the case of Joseph Lieberman. While he was too liberal for my tastes, he was and still is one of the few that I respected and would consider supporting. He was the conscience of the Democratic Party. Sen. Lieberman committed the unpardonable sin of opposing anti-Bush obstructionists and supported the War on Terror. 90% of his liberal-moderate voting record was cast aside because of one issue. I don't understand how a man who was worthy enough to be your Vice Presidential candidate (should have been Presidential candidate) just 6 yrs. ago, is not fit to be the Democratic candidate for the Senate.

The reason the 'Conscience of the Democratic Party' is now an Independent candidate for the Senate is because once proud Liberals have become petty, hateful and sad little caricatures of a once great political philosophy.

This answer has been written by a proud Christian conservative, pro life lesbian, whose whole family is from a long line of Democrat's. I have felt since I was old enough to vote, that I didn't leave the Democratic Party, I fell that the Democratic Party left me. My lesbianism may not mesh with the Republican Party (except for Mary Cheney), but I support enough of their issues that I can sleep at night with a clear conscience.

Hannah, you didn’t state whether or not you were a liberal. But if you are, I may not agree with you. Know this though; I would certainly fight for your right to express your opinion even if it is not what I would agree with.

My point is that the liberals of today would not return to me, Republicans, President Bush or Senator Lieberman the same favor. They would fight to silence the voices of opposition. That is truly the saddest part of a once great movement and legacy.

Liberals have a completely Different philosophy. They tend to put the needs/wants of the individual persons over the needs of the country as a whole. Often times that tends to breed shortsightedness and a completely opposing view on how to handle situations. From my experience Liberals tend to think only in the short term. They also tend make decisions...and when the decisions go bad...look for someone else to blame it on(and im not just talking about here lately). They tend to also breed government assistance addiction as well as taking away individual rights while at the same time brain washing the masses with the media. Liberals in my opinion are very good at criticizing after the fact(and doing it loudly)...knowing that they would have made the same decision if they were in the same position with the same information.

Katrina is a prime example. Bush extremly criticized...but the media totally brushed over the fact that FEMA couldnt come in until the Governor asked for assistance. Also Bush was criticized for not having FEMA on the ready. But at the time Katrina hit...it was a Cat 3 storm. The levees in N.O. were designed to handle that level of storm...the reason they they didnt...I blame that on Poor maintenance and upkeep(is THAT Bush's fault too?)

ANYways...I think I have demonstrated my point

-Well intentioned but misguided.
-They often seek to solve problems using the blunt tool of government power.
-They are too wrapped up in the feeling of 'doing something', and don't spend enough time in critical analysis, nor historical analysis of previous 'do something' actions.
-Don't have a working understanding of economics, the law of supply and demand, the Laffer curve, etc.
-Don't have a working understanding that the government is supposed to be limited to only those powers enumerated in the Constitution, and that the Constitution is not subject to interpretive change based on contemporary beliefs.
-Failed to have learned the lessons of the 1930's, especially concerning the failure of the 'peace at all cost' Chamberlainian foreign policies.
-Don't understand the basic principle that what you tax you get less of, what you subsidize you get more of. That is why they want to tax businesses and profits more, yet give away more welfare and aid to the indolent and the illegitimate.
-Have invested too much feeling in their political positions, so it sometimes is hard for us to distinguish it from a religious belief. That is why you are 'evil' if you disagree with them.
-Do not follow up, or close the feedback loop, on policies they support, yet which have failed or had unintended consequences.

nicely, at one time they were fairly distinct. Now they're particularly a lot opposite sides of an similar coin. For an in intensity description i could recommend checking Wikipedia. yet in reality, Republicans are the more effective pragmatic, careful and classic of both. Republicans be counted on small authorities, man or woman duty and occasional taxes. a minimum of they used to. (i latterly grew to change right into a Libertarian because Republicans now no longer adhere to those concepts.) Democrats, on the different hand, take a more effective socialized frame of mind. they believe that's the authorities's job to look after the persons and be more effective concerned about social causes. because of those beliefs, Democrats are more effective likely to make stronger taxes and stress more effective controls on human beings and company. for my section (and maximum Republicans), this frame of mind is in direct violation of the structure.

I "think" they are okay people, on most levels. They are doing what they think is best, and for that, I applaud their efforts.

However, when their ideas counter my ideas, and I cannot get a reasonable dialogue with them to fix the problem, I then close my ears.

So, if you consider yourself a Liberal who is open for actual discourse, I know of a few sites you can try to actually "discuss" problems.

I don't think it should make any difference what I think. I don't agree with what they support or believe, but I don't exactly disrespect it either. Everyone feels and believes the way the do for a reason and I respect that. I just don't have to agree with it.

Where Conservatives see opportunities,
Liberals see only limitations.
They have only the lowest expectations of the average citizen.
Expect nothing of a person and nothing is what you will get.
Expect excellence from people and they will rise to do their
best and in the process, experience the pride or achievement.

Liberalism is a DISEASE that must be erraticated
if this CIVILIZATION is to SURVIVE...
they AGREE too much with OUR OWN ENEMIES...

Liberals are mainly steered by emotion. They forget you need both the head and heart to make sound decisions.

Liberals believe they can make socialism work, when it has always failed every time it's been in place as a form of government.

Liberals have a few good ideas....the rest of it is micro managing us and control.... like it's wrong to act or think "this", you can't do "that". No guns, more taxes. blah-blah....

Chances are pretty good that liberalism is a mental illness. You have to believe in contradictory things, be worried about many causes, and never act in your own self interest, while at the same time indulging in every destructive behavior available.

You have to be willing to spend other people’s money to salve your own conscience. You must be full of self-loathing. You must hold nothing (other than abortion) sacred.

Overall, being a liberal just isn’t worth it. Most liberals eventually realize this.
