In my circle they're called "rags" or "rag mags".

the name tabloid originated with the smaller size used for the magazine or newspaper and were generally used by the cheaper publications specializing in sensationalism, celebrities, scandal and unbelievable stories

_rag or rag sheet & pulp mag, from being made with inferior quality paper
_yellow sheet, because many were originally produced with a yellow header or front sheet splashes to emphasize lurid headlines
_red label, because many now have red headers
_junk food news, flash 'n trash ... these two are pretty self-explanitory
