They are fond of "assuming". I hate rap, yet I was bass player in an (almost) all-black blues/ jazz/ R&B band for 10 years. They are older men, and they hate rap too. So there you have it.

well rap music is now a part of pop culture, unlike opera and blue grass. many ppl consider hip-hop a way of life too, i dont, but hey that's their opinion.
the reason u could get called racist is because its a black dominated genre and culture. I mean I am no hard core hip-hop/rap fan, but because of that i used to be called an oreo (black on the outside white on the inside). in addition on one side of my family i am sort of the black sheep because of that, so que Serra Serra.
But whomever says that or called u that was extremely uneducated. bias, and/or an instigator. Moreover, watch how u word things instead of saying hate try "dont care" or "dislike".
Overall it depends on the person though.

Saying you hate the sound of rap is no way racist. My mother likes pickled herring; I hate them! Maybe choose a better word than hate, then they cant label you as racist. Turn the argument around by saying you really are offended by the violense and profanity in rap.

it's not a very founded accusation, but i guess it has it's roots in the fact that the fist rap singers were Afro-Americans, from Bronx. it's no longer the case, these days rap music is very popular and no longer specific to a certain race of ppl, so u can't really say ppl who hate rap are racists, but it's an explanation...

Because they automatically "assume" that you're judging rap music and disliking rap music for its stereotype with the race most involved in the rap culture (even if there are a lot of non-African American rappers out there) rather than your preference in music.. pretty contradicting when you realize who's really being racist. Ironic, isn't it?

Because "race" in this country is never really just race. It's always tied in with culture and economics and a sense of personal heritage. When we use terms like "black" and "white," it's really a cultural designation as much as a racial one.
In this context, it's hard for such a thing as pure racism to exist, because race doesn't exist as an isolated concept. So attitudes that are not, properly speaking, racist – like your musical preferences – sometimes get branded as such. It's a muddy issue.

Well, hate is such a strong emotion to have against anything. But you're right, it doesn't matter what kind of music you don't like, it doesn't mean you're racist. Whoever thinks that is very ignorant. Personally, I enjoy ALL kinds of music. It's all unique in it's own way. As a matter of fact, rap is my favorite cause it's so fun to dance to!

No. yet I could question why somebody might ask this. You needless to say think of roughly race in the adventure that your even asking this question. there are various black people who do in contrast to rap, so that is not in basic terms non-black human beings.
