Last week in Norfolk we saw a sign on a field gate saying 'please do not feed the Pootle'. Anybody got any idea what one is please......

I don't know but we have all done it. (Pootled I mean).

I suspect that the pootle is a pet which ambles about aimlessly and is therefore called "The Pootle". As it was in a field in Norfolk, and people might want to feed it, I would suspect a pig. Probably a pot-bellied pig. I can almost see him!

Yep, I agree with lucifer_sam: Pootle was one of the Flumps in the old UK TV show... perhaps this was a joke?

I think the pootle is a a breed of dog. Maybe a mix between a pug and a pootle.

I know that Pootle Flump was the little yellow flump that always had a cold but I doubt the sign is referring to her!!!!
