Most laws on domestic violence are written gender-neutral.

So, while statistically the protection is greater for females because more females are the victims of DV, the goal is to eliminate DV against everyone regardless of gender.

For feminists who want equality between the genders, that would be a win.

In the State of Delaware, this is the wording of the law on domestic violence:

"(a) "Domestic violence" includes but is not limited to physical or sexual abuse or threats of physical or sexual abuse and any other offense against the person committed by 1 parent against the other parent, against any child living in either parent's home, or against any other adult living in the child's home. "Domestic violence" does not include reasonable acts of self-defense by 1 parent for self-protection or in order to protect the child from abuse or threats of abuse by the other parent or other adult living in the child's home."

That seems to be worded pretty non-biased to me. Working in Family Court, I will admit we see more of the women asking for help than the men, but then, men don't really like to ask for help or admit that a woman has "smacked them around". It's tough for anyone to make that admission.

Hope this answers your question.
