Ex: My dad says he's "snakebit" and has always had back luck. He'll go to his grave saying that there was a curse on him, that's why he never succeeded in anything.

In the south, depending on where you are, if a child is born in caul (with part of the sac over it's face) it's destined to be a priest, or prophet of god.
In Slavic countries, they believe the child will be cursed as a vampire, witch, werewolf, ect.

I guess it all depends on what you want to believe. If you don't believe, the curse has no effect. Even the Voodoo practitioners will tell you this.

The only way to break a curse, whether real or imagined, is to turn to Jesus.

He came to set us free by dying on the cross and rising again the third day, showing that he has all power and authority, even power over the grave.

When we turn to Him in repentance over our own sins (i.e. crimes against God), He can forgive us, since He took the penalty for our sins. This puts us back into a right relationship with God, and breaks every curse - even the "generational" curses, handed down from parent to child over the generations.

No I do not believe it. It is because of the myth he believes that is why he is never succeedful. If you believe you are not going to be successful at anything, you have already failed before you start trying. He has no curse.

I don't think anyone is "born under a curse" but for the most part curses are little more than self fullfilled prophesies. If you think that you are curse your life with play out accordingly. Not by anything metaphysical but by your own mistakes.

I think I was! I have the worst luck of anyone I know. How do you find out if you were born under a curse?!

I stopped believing ANYTHING at age 9, when told that Santa didn't exist. That included all superstitions, myths, religions and their content. I just accepted that people lie.
Superstitions are a type auto hypnosis, and you are right about your dad, he is stuck with his belief.
When I was 15, just to prove a point to myself, I decided to make Friday 13th my lucky day. Since that day I have always found something good that happened to me on these days.
Your dad just took the other route, looking for something bad, and of course he always found it.
I like my way better! ;-)

I don't believe people are born under curses, but your dad's got himself convinced he's screwed for life, and thus he is. He'll miss or dismiss the opportunities when they come, and stop trying when something practically throws itself in his lap. It's truly too bad to be him.

My Pastor prays that all generational curses are broken when he dedicates a new baby to the LORD. So I believe you can be cursed. I also believe you can break these by just asking GOD to remove them.

Wonderful old blues tune:

Born under a bad sign
Been down since I began to crawl
If it wasn't for bad luck
I wouldn't have no luck at all

I always believe it if it's in a blues
