As a counsellor I have had bad experiences with patients. Finding a therapist is much like finding a good pair of shoes, right price range and a good fit. As most people know, sometimes a pair of shoes just won't fit, and no matter how much time you give them, it will still be uncomfortable. The same goes for the relationship between patient and counsellor. I have had a number of patients yell at me, swear at me, tell me how stupid they thought I was, how useless psychology is, called me almost every name under the sun. They didn't work well with my style of counselling. I am still harassed by one patient (you thought a psycho ex-boyfriend was bad, just imagine the determination of somebody with a confirmed mental disorder). She maintains that my sole motive for the therapy was mind control, I still recieve harassing e-mails, the occasional phone call, and it's an absolute nightmare. I have been accused of everything from sexual assault to late night poker parties with satan by this individual (all unfounded, of course). I was attempting to help her through issues from a prior experience (sorry, can't really give any details of the pt.), and through Cognitive Behavioral Analysis I determined the problem, and thats when all hell broke loose. After she admitted what happened, she began to call me a liar, a hack, claimed I was manipulating her. It went so far as to have in the range of 20 complaints sent to my thesis supervisor, all were dismissed immediately. I've contemplated legal action, but decided against it, because unfortunately the courts can't do much besides restraining orders.
The morals of this story, 1. Even counsellors have bad experiences in therapy, 2. You don't always have to stick with your first counsellor/therapist, shop around, find a good fit, it can save many problems

I think vinny is on to something. I am not happy with psychatrist. Medicines help but they don't really take the time to counsel. So how does one get better when all you do is get numb to the problem and basically hide from the world?
Therapy, well, maybe I should try a different route. Just my experience. :-) Keep Happy thoughts, I try to.

I've never been to counseling myself, but I'm majoring in Psychology. I imagine that you have good and bad experiences during counseling. Some unpleasantness is neccesary to accept the things that are wrong in your life. It's hard to admit when we're wrong. (we have to accept that we're wrong in order to change)

This therapist tried to tell me I had anger issues and I got mad at her for saying such.
She also metioned that I had a problem with voicing my opinion, but I thought that seeing since how I was angry, I didn't say anything that would encourage any other "opinions" that she had to say.
