How much of a cool movie is Strictly Ballroom – it always makes me tear up watching it (usually, I am well drunk, though – maybe that is the secret!). I am not the only one who loves it, surely, despite its faults!? My housemates hate it! What the!?

hee hee. i went to a performing arts high school (yes, like fame). my acting teacher made us watch this movie again and again. in acting, one of the first things you learn about is "motivation" - what is the reason your character does what they do? very serious method actors apply this to everything - why the character says what they say, why they eat what they, why they cough and sneeze when they do, etc. my teacher thought strictly ballroom was a fantastic example of well-acted motivations, and of character arc, which is how a character changes along the course of the movie (or play). so we saw this movie a million times, at home and at school. it's fantastic, and should have gotten more recognition than it did.

This is one of many dancing movies that have started making the movie scene, since Dirty Dancing, that is really good. It has a great story line, the characters are sound and believable, the sets/costumes are amazing....Even if you don't like dancing you'll find something to enjoy in this movie.

It's totally awesome! I love all of Baz's movies. My favorite part is the end when they start dancing to the clapping.
