Which is your no1 or top three? You don't have to be in the field. Any opinion welcome, but please specify if you are an EE or involved in research etc.

CalTech and MIT are level in my book as the top engineering schools, then Stanford.

You have already researched the best schools. My view is that you should research further into your field to determine which of these supports your own needs. Are you going to teach, work with government, auto industry, medical, telecom? Which of these schools spends the most research $$ in your desired field? I went to Michigan, but that was years ago. The company I worked for out of college sent employees to U of M to get their PhD's. They did research while in school. I don't know if that is done by industry anymore. Good Luck.
