Eventually. It is just going to take a while; unfortunately, we have too many old fashioned news broadcasters right now who are too stuck up and conservative to look at any sport except for the major ones (baseball, football, basketball). Eventually they will realize that are a lot of people out here who play or enjoy watching other sports and either adapt or retire.

It allready is. Many teams now have thier own stadiums and the league is about to sign its first big dollar TV contract.
IMHO, soccer doesn't ruin the youth of this country, intolerance does.
People forget the MLB has been around for a century and the Super Bowl is now 40 years old. No one cared about the NBA until the 80s. NASCAR was nothing 15 years ago. These things take time. MLS is doing it right. Building infrastructure, fostering competitive parity, and taking care of thier fans. The league has only been around for 10 years (this is season 11). 10 years from now, I think it will be #4 behind the NFL, MLB, and NASCAR.
The day is comming soon when our best athletes will be deciding between football, baseball, basketball, AND soccer. When our best athletes decide to play Striker in MLS rather than DB in the NFL, is when we take the soccer world by storm.

Well, in my opinion, soccer is the greatest sport ever invented, and all we diehard MLS fans need to do is introduce it to everyone else by playing some soccer with them, taking them to a soccer match, watching a televised match on TV with them, do whatever it takes to show them that soccer is truly more enjoyable than basketball, american football, hockey, or baseball. Then, and only then will soccer be popular in the USofA.
P.S. If the MLS folds, I'm moving to Europe

Not to the extent that soccer is popular in other countries. It will fill a niche, but that's about it.

With as many children that play it in the leagues I sure wouldn't doubt that it will eventually. Will it ever be number one? That I don't believe.

no,mostly because of not being able to bet on it, and i think it was maybe in the 40's that the U.S. gov. dismissed it as a peasant sport (cold war propaganda) so it never really caught on here

Oh, I hope not.
In the words of my Uncle, "Soccer ruins the youth of America."

It doesn't seem so, but they were talking about adding more teams in the next few years.
